Mary Anowruk Alexander, 88, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, auntie, cousin and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on June 27, 2013 in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on February 19, 1925 in Wales, Alaska to Charles and Agnes Oxereok. She grew up and attended school in Wales. She met and later married Roland Alexander on October 30, 1958. Mary worked as bilingual teacher, sewing instructor, 4H Club assistant, foster parent and student chaperone. She was gifted and talented in many ways. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading her bible, and subsistence gathering. Her love for her family was heart felt.

Mary is survived by her children, Charles Oxereok Sr., Leona Oxereok and companion Ron, Lorna Smith, Gilbert Oxereok, and Lois Pointer and husband Nathaniel; sisters-in-laws, Betty Oxereok, Edna Senungetuk and Barbara Beebee; grandchildren, Charles Jr. and Jonathan Oxereok, David, John and Kahani Donajkowski, Cindy Alexander, Natasha Smith, Jaclyn Torres-Perez, Zenita Wendt, Arnold Olanna and Agnes Babb. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes Oxereok; husband, Roland Alexander; son, Roland Alexander Jr.; brothers, Frank Sr., Ernest, Daniel, David, Charles Jr., Sherman, Frederick, and 1st Isaac Oxereok; sisters Naomi Attatayuk, Vivien Olin, and Jane Oxereok; brothers-in-law Joseph Attatayuk and James Olin; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Oxereok and Nora Larsen; son-in-law, Gene Smith, and beloved grandson Fredrick Perry Olanna.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Alaska Native Lutheran Church, 15th and Cordova. Viewing will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. A potluck will follow the service. Burial at Anchorage Cemetery will be Monday, July 8, 2013.
